The thing I love most about Abdu, my beloved husband, is that he absolutely loves the Lord and is a true servant and
man of God. Abdu founded Saved to Serve Worship Centre in 2008. It's a born-again Christian church. The church started as a children/youth church. I would say adults makeup about 10% of the weekly attendance. Sundays have 50+ in attendance and it continues to grow. More recently we have seen an increase in women coming which is very exciting. Some are mothers to the children who attend. Others are brand new members. We even have started a Women's Prayer group and we gather Monday evenings. One of us shares a message, we worship the Lord and we pray for our families, church, and country. We have even dedicated one Sunday a month as Women's Day and the women lead Praise & Worship and one of us preaches.
Saved to Serve Worship Centre is located in the slums of Mulago, Uganda. You cannot drive to the church. We park and then walk in through the alleyways to reach the church. Homes are very close together and have narrow walkways between buildings. There is no running water and electricity is not reliable.
Saved to Serve Worship Centre has been a church of very humble beginnings. The land is rented. We do not own the land but we own the structure itself. Abdu was able to build a structure out of scrap wood and scrap iron sheets for the walls, trees for support, and scrap iron metal sheets for roofing. The floor is dirt.
On Sunday, August 16, 2015, in the middle of the night the neighbors house caught on fire and it quickly spread to the church as well. Since the walls were mostly old wood it burned quickly. The roofing timbers are trees which also were burned and others were charred and weakened. One of our long walls is almost completely gone. The area where the electrical wires were run (where we plug in the sound equipment) is completely gone.

Since the church is mostly children there is very little in
the offering each week. It is not enough to even cover the rent for the land.
Let alone a pastor salary, necessary improvements, or any emergencies that come up.
We have had a contractor come look at the church to see what it will take to repair it. The cost is proposed to be $2,500. This will repair the roofing, rebuild the walls, and reinstall electrical.
We may never know exactly what happened or what caused the fire. But we know that God has a plan for everything. Even though the church is severely damaged it has not stopped us from praising and worshiping the Lord and glorifying Him. We have held our normally scheduled services because the devil will NOT defeat us.
We are prayerfully seeking support to help us repair/rebuild Saved to Serve Worship Centre. We have Ezekiel 37 Ministry, a non-profit, setup for the ministry work that we do in Karamoja. Ezekiel 37 has decided to partner with Saved to Serve in order to raise the funds. All donations will be tax deductible. Donations of any amount are greatly appreciated. We as a church have been praying for people to stand with us and will continue to pray.

We are holding onto the scripture below. We know that we will come back and our church will continue to grow and be a testimony! There is no testimony without going through a test...
"The silver is Mine, and the gold is Mine,' says the Lord of hosts. 'The glory of this latter temple shall be greater than the former,' says the Lord of hosts. 'And in this place I will give peace.' Haggai 2:8-9)
God bless,
Pastor Abdu and Rebecca Sekamanya
